Using this until I take a better picture

Nathaniel Chase Tessmer

Skills

Python

Chase's most profficient programming language is Python. He has used it for automating numerous tasks and as the main language for his machine learning research as a research assistant.

PyTorch

Chase has extensive experience with PyTorch mainly in the fields of computer vision and generative models.

Git and GitHub

As a research assistant, Chase was responsible for maintaining the lab's GitHub organization and teaching new lab assistants how to make the best use of it.

Linux

Chase has made extensive use of the computers at the Texas Advanced Computing Center to scale his machine learning projects. This also included a significant amount of Bash and Z shell scripting.

Software Engineering

Chase has taken classes on software engineering best practices, and helped implement some of them as a research assistant. This included the use of Git, linters, code coverage, and unit testing.

Docker

Chase led his lab to make use of Docker and Singularity to simplify and speed up the process of running code on Texas Advanced Computing Center computers.

HTML and CSS

Chase started working on this website in late January 2022 and it is his first HTML project. It is still a work in progress, so come back later!

Experience

Graduate Research Assistant at the Computational Visualization Center

The University of Texas at Austin - Austin, TX
May 2020 to August 2021

Chase worked with many students to help turn their theoretical algorithms into runnable code. He also worked closely with the Texas Advanced Computing Center to run larger jobs on their massive computers.

Graduate Teaching Assistant

The University of Texas at Austin - Austin, TX
August 2019 to May 2020

I helped facilitate several upper level classes in the Aerospace Engineering and Mathematics departments.

Projects

Personal Resumé Website

Chase built the website you are on now (writing these things in third-person is pretty weird). He built it all from scratch using HTML5 and it is still a work in progress. Future updates are detailed in the following project entries.

Source code available HERE.

Reviewing System

I plan to use javascript and SQL to create a custom API that will allow visitors to my website to write and search for reviews of yours truly.

Tutoring Scheduler

I also want to add a scheduling system, so that potential students can access my website and set up a schedule for their tutoring based on what times I have available.

Education

Master's Degree in Computational Science, Engineering, and Mathematics

The University of Texas at Austin
August 2018 to May 2021

This degree is quite a mouthful, but it is essentially a degree in computer related math (functional analysis, probability, linear algebra, machine learning, etc.).

Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering

The University of Texas at Austin
August 2014 to May 2018
